July 2014 Music Resident: Big Jeff & Hanna DeSmedt

A wonderful father/daughter musical team get together to grace our li’l stage for the month of July.

“Big Jeff” DeSmedt is well-known around town as the children’s singer at the Biergarten and the Garden Street Farmer’s Market. He’s also played the local bar scene both solo and with The Wailing Denims and early versions of Nipsey.

Now Jeff is backing up an exciting new talent: his 16-year-old daughter Hanna. This beautiful next-generation Riot Grrrl grew up singing with her dad on various recordings and live events. From there, she’s taken her lilting vibrato and her ukelele far and wide, all the way to the Ben & Jerry’s in Ridgewood, Teen Arts Night at Holmstead School, and live on the air at homegrownradionj.org. Now, at last, she’s ready for the big time: D’s Soul Full Cafe.

True to the Soul Full tradition, these Sunday afternoon shows will include various guests stopping by and contributing their talents. And of course, there will be sandwiches available. But mostly it’s Hanna’s voice, gliding from Beatles to Bright Eyes, that will go home with the crowd.
