December 2013 Artist: Jack ‘Crying Raven’ Anderson

NJ artist brings his indigenous and jazz inspired paintings to our walls for the month of December

Jack ‘Crying Raven’ Anderson is a self-taught artist and — as he puts it — a graduate of the NJ School of Hard Knocks, Brick City Campus (Newark). He works in multiple media including acrylic, oils, watercolor and collage on canvas. His work centers around indigenous traditions and jazz aesthetics.

My life has been an overwhelming, but a fantastic journey. This life journey has been documented through my art. Color has shaped my life from the beginning and since I have been old enough to pick up a crayon, I have used color to express my loves, my fears, my sorrows and my joys.
