As of January 2nd 2014, D’s Soul Full Cafe will no longer be selling Bagels.
This seemingly drastic (and somewhat risky) menu change has actually come after a great deal of consideration. The menu here at D’s Soul Full Cafe has evolved over the years and let’s face it, you can get a bagel anywhere. However, everything else we do can only be found here and we want to continue to add more of our unique flavors to the Hoboken scene (and bagels just ain’t it).
A little history: Back in 2002, the storefront at 918 Willow Ave in Hoboken was part of a small, simple bagel franchise. Over time the space changed, the franchise was dropped and the menu grew to include toasted breakfast burritos, specialty wraps & subs, salads, soups and much more that no one else in Hoboken was doing. Soon, all those other tasty treats far outsold the bagels.
In addition to the new flavors, our menu became healthier. We don’t cook with grease. All of our ingredients are fresh. We offer vegetarian and vegan fare as well as a vast array of healthy breakfast and lunch alternatives for a growing, fitness-minded clientele. Those high-carb, high-fat, high-sodium, high-sugar bagels just didn’t fit with all of that. Did you know that one bagel is the same as three to four servings of bread? Just another reason to trim them off the menu.
For anyone paying attention, you would notice that we stopped marketing bagels quite some time ago. Nowhere in our cafe does it even say we sell bagels. Except of course in our menu, but even there things have changed. At one time the bagels took up a full page of our menu. Soon it was a paragraph. Then finally bagels were simply listed as a choice of bread. The inevitable was bound to happen.
So now is the time to move on, remove the bagels altogether and expand the menu to further grow our areas of flavor that are unlike anything else in Hoboken.
What about Breakfast Sandwiches? Fear not. We’ve added an assortment of breads including ciabatta and fresh sliced bakery bread so that we can continue offering delicious Breakfast Sandwiches along with our signature Toasted Breakfast Burritos, Specialty Subs & Wraps, Soups and Salads.
And what about all those bagel customers? Sure there may be a handful that will leave in anger, searching for their bagel fix. However, we’re confident that we will convince most of them to try rest of what D’s Soul Full Cafe has to offer.
